The LS3 gets a better intake, lighter intake valves, and prolly more cam/compression. Also don't be afraid to put a cam and change the intake on a LSx motor. They can be very reliable and keep most of the gas mileage. My heads and cam LS1 C5 still managed ~30mpg on road trips and lost about 2-3mpg around town unless I really beat on it.

Ive been trying to figure out the best route, ie 383 stroker for my LS1, or just swapping an LS3 into my car.
